- Conversation over tea or coffee
- Playing cards, board games, or doing puzzles together
- Going for walks or trips to local places
- Accompanying you to appointments, social events, or visiting friends

Who is Companionship Care For?
This might include:
- Older people who live alone and find themselves increasingly isolated
- People with limited mobility who find it difficult to get out and maintain social connections
- People bereaved or going through difficult times who need friendly, non-judgmental company
- People with early-stage dementia who benefit from stimulating conversation and activities
- People recovering from illness who aren’t yet ready to resume their normal social life
- People new to an area who haven’t yet built local friendships and connections
It’s also for family members who live far away and worry about their loved one being lonely, or who want to ensure their parent or relative has regular, reliable company.

How Sparrow Carers Provide Companionship Care
Our self-employed carers approach companionship naturally and genuinely. Because they work independently and choose who they work with, they develop real friendships with their clients rather than just “doing a job.”
Flexible support: Your carer works directly for you, so you can arrange visits that suit your lifestyle and interests. Whether that’s a couple of hours twice a week for a chat and a walk, a weekly shopping trip, or daily visits – you decide what works for you. There’s no requirement for personal care or medical support unless you want it.
Getting out and about: Many of our carers drive and are happy to accompany clients to local places – the garden centre, library, cafe, or just for a scenic drive. This helps you maintain connections to your community and continue enjoying the activities you love.
How finding Companionship Care works

Cost of Companionship Care
Self-employed carers typically charge between £22-25 per hour, with Sparrow’s 10% introduction fee added on top. This means you’ll pay around £24-27.50 per hour for dementia care.
Because your carer works directly for you rather than through an agency, you often pay less than traditional agency care while your carer earns more. There are no minimum visit times, contracts, or hidden fees – just transparent, flexible care that works for you.
Some people use Direct Payments or other local authority funding to pay for companionship care. The direct relationship with a self-employed carer works well with most funding arrangements, and we can provide any documentation needed.
