I’m from a farming background in Allendale, although animals were never my passion – mine lies with people, and enabling them to live happy lives in their own homes. I’ve often been described by clients as a breath of fresh air, which I take a lot of pleasure from. I’m bubbly and like to have a chuckle. I pride myself on being an empath and genuinely just enjoy human contact and helping people.
Over my 14 years in care, I’ve been lucky enough to look after a variety of people. My whole aim in becoming self-employed was to enable people to get out – trips for coffee, garden centres, cinema, trips to the coast. I particularly enjoy general companionship, really.
When I was 22, I was lucky enough to travel SE Asia for 3.5 months as a carer for a 28-year-old lady with spinal muscular atrophy – an experience I’ll never forget.
