I would describe myself as respectful, considerate and peaceful. I take time to get to know others by listening and watching their body language to understand how they’re feeling. I love nature and animals and have a genuinely compassionate and caring personality.
I was involved with the care of my mother-in-law who developed dementia – taking her to appointments, helping with cleaning and shopping, ensuring she ate well and took her medication, and keeping her connected to family. My own father developed dementia too, and I used what I’d learned to help him feel safe, secure and to respect his independence.
At home I’m an unpaid carer helping my autistic daughter navigate life. I have empathy with those in similar situations.
I’m happy to support with companionship, cleaning, personal care, outings, gardening and meals – taking time to listen and grow into the role.

1. I have known Sarah for approx 16 years including as a work colleague with Sarah's role as the receptionist for the busy Urgent Treatment Centre we both worked at. Sarah carried out her role in a professional caring way. She was always kind and empathetic to all who attended, maintaining a calm atmosphere in a hectic environment. Through this experience she developed knowledge and understanding of when to escalate clients and gain immediate assistance due to the severity of illness/ injury, concerns regarding safeguarding and knowledge of neurodiversity.
In her personal life Sarah has been involved in providing help and support for her Mother-in-law, assisting her to live in her home as long as possible. Supporting her with shopping, cleaning and personal care. More recently Sarah moved to the North East to support other family members in caring for her father as his health deteriorated. Both these situations show a commitment to respecting an individuals wish to remain at home while providing the support and care needed to meet their needs and keep them safe. I would recommend Sarah to work as a personal carer as she is reliable and kind, showing empathy to others and has knowledge of supporting individuals within their homes.
2. Character reference: Sarah is one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met. She has a non-judgemental approach, polished interpersonal skills, is able to assess situations quickly and act appropriately. She can manage stressful situations and will always seek guidance if required. She is well versed with safeguarding protocols and will maintain client confidentiality as appropriate in line with local policies and procedures. Sarah will maintain the dignity of her clients throughout and will treat them with the respect everyone deserves.
Sarah has gained her knowledge and skills through her work within the NHS as a receptionist in a Minor Injuries Department and in her current role. These skills have also been gained through the incredible care she gave her mother-in-law before she passed away and through the fantastic mum she is to both her children who are neurodivergent. I don’t doubt that she has exactly the right qualities to be an excellent independent carer.
