What challenges were you facing before you contacted Sparrow?
Our Dad took ill very quickly. At the grand age of 90, we thought he’d go on forever, but literally overnight, his health deteriorated. We were like rabbits in the headlights completely stunned by what to do, how to do it, what help was available, what do we need etc etc. We found ourselves in a tsunami of questions, problems, and scenarios, without any prior warning or knowledge of doing this before. The only thing we were sure of, was his wish was to be at home. Sparrow, with their invaluable support, calm approach, and fantastic carers, ensured that this wish was granted.
What did Sparrow and your carers do to help?
The sheer relief of a friendly, knowledgeable voice on the end of the phone was priceless. Empathy and understanding throughout. During an extremely emotional and stressful time, with us having no sense of direction, Anna and Tom were that very welcome guiding light. Vicky and Tracey, the carers, both had a ‘can do’ attitude where nothing was too much bother. They showed respect, empathy, trustworthiness, flexibility, and caring on another level. Our mum and dad warmed to them both immediately, which was a real blessing.
How did you and your family benefit from the care you received?
The support was priceless. Sparrow provided complete peace of mind. They worked at great speed (things happened very quickly, over a three-to-four-week period). Our sometimes-daily dilemmas were dealt with so efficiently and with such respect and empathy. Both Anna and Tom took time to speak to you. You never felt rushed or in the way. Their advice was invaluable to ensuring that our dad got the complete care he needed whilst being at home. He died very peacefully at home after only four weeks of deteriorating health in his full 90 years. Sparrow’s advice, support, and wonderful carers ensured we could keep him at home, and, for that, we will be eternally grateful.
