Case study: Jim and Ann Darlington

Client Case Studies

What challenges were you facing before you contacted Sparrow?
Over Christmas 2023 we realised I could no longer manage Ann’s care single-handed. Ann was diagnosed with dementia in 2021 and later with CBD. She lost the ability to walk or stand unaided, and after another fall we realised we needed support 7 days a week, morning and evening. I quickly realised this would not be easy to find using care agencies.

What did Sparrow and your carer do to help?
We were introduced to Tom and Sparrow Carers. Tom introduced us to Sam who has been our principal carer for 15 months. Sam helps me get Ann up, washed, dressed, helps with breakfast and transfers. She helps prepare Ann for bed at night and comes two afternoons a week to enable Ann to have a change, and occasionally to visit the dentist or go out for coffee or a walk along the river.

How did you or your family benefit from the support you received?
Sam has provided amazing support and has increasingly had to cope with rapid mood changes and difficult behaviour. Our 3 children all have young families and jobs, and live hundreds of miles away. Without the support of Sparrow Carers, and particularly Sam, I would not have been able to continue caring for Ann at home.
