Matching outstanding independent carers with people in need of care.
At Sparrow self-employed carers we find outstanding people and support them to become self-employed carers who offer exceptional personalised care to you and your loved ones.
Because nothing is more independent or free than a bird. We want all carers to have the freedom to work independently and provide the best care they can while earning a fair wage.
Sparrows are understated but charismatic, birds that are sociable and industrious. They work together to do many of life’s chores, foraging, preening, dust-bathing and roosting together. We thought this made the humble sparrow the perfect metaphor for a network of well connected, independent carers.
We founded Sparrow with a vision to personalise the experience of care in the UK. The ‘traditional’ care agency model interferes with the personal connection between caregivers and care recipients. Carers often have unreasonably tight schedules and shockingly bad rates of pay.
Meanwhile going it alone as an independent carer can be extremely challenging. Many people who would make outstanding independent carers simply don't know where to begin. At Sparrow we strive to provide everything independent carers need, making independent care simple and enabling carers to focus on providing outstanding care. By supporting carers to work for themselves instead of for agencies, Sparrow aim to improve the experience of care for both caregivers and care recipients while saving both parties money.
Our ambitions are huge and we plan to reshape the care landscape in the UK, one independent carer at a time.
We are a family business run by brother and sister Anna Davis and Tom Maskell.
We are both carers ourselves, so we understand the challenges that both caregivers and recipients face. We started Sparrow to provide the level of support we would have wanted for ourselves and our clients when we first started out as independent carers.
Anna is a former nurse and an experienced independent carer. She helps identify and onboard carers and clients and has helped put carers at the heart of our service. You can contact Anna at anna@sparrowcarers.co.uk
Tom is a former operations manager and also a carer. Tom takes care of most of the day to day management and operations of Sparrow. You can contact him at tom@sparrowcarers.co.uk.
Our board includes Anna’s husband Rob who is the Chief Technical Officer at a tech company and Tom’s wife Amy who is a GP partner.
No. Sparrow is not a care agency. We do not guarantee or oversee care as a typical agency does.
We are what the CQC term an introductory agency. We find exceptional people, support them to become independent carers and we introduce them to people in need of care.
Instead, of managing care, we focus on supporting the carers themselves, freeing them up to focus on delivering exceptional care.
Our carers are all completely independent and self-employed but Sparrow link our carers into a network. This gives our clients the ability to contact Sparrow to request to be introduced to other cares, whether to cover holidays or due to changing care needs. This means Sparrow offer greater resilience for customers when compared to hiring an individual carer privately.
